Pure Conjecture

September 22nd, 2009 | by jruss |

I read this morning in Tim Kawakami’s blog that the Warriors today traded two future 2nd round picks to New Jersey to make sure that they keep their number 1 pick in 2011. This confirms that the Warriors will send their 2012 first round pick to New Jersey to complete the stellar Marcus Williams trade. Of course we all know that Williams lit it up on the bench and left as a free agent this summer to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Since the W’s cannot trade their 2010 first round pick, this move today is intriguing if nothing else. According to both Kawakami and Marc Spears from Yahoo Sports, no trades are on the horizon for any number of potential players like Jackson or Ellis or even Amare.

However, I was talking to a friend of mine today who is also a big Warriors fan and he told me about a rumor floating out there that I thought I would run with to see what folks thought about it. He heard that the Warriors would send their 2011 first round pick along with Andris Biedrins, Deavan George, and Brandon Wright to the Suns for Amare Stoudamire, who either is, would or will sign an extension. Should any part of that be true, here’s what we know:

1. I would definitely miss Biedrins;
2. I would definitely NOT miss George;
3. I would only miss Wright if he actually turns into a semi-decent, reliable player. Which is possible, but I wouldn’t hold my breath;
4. I would assume that Stoudamire would play Center mostly in Nellie’s offense, which would most likely pair him up with Anthony Randolph down low. Now that would be pretty darn fun to watch.

And, you throw in Jackson (assuming this trade actually makes him happy or content), Ellis (see Jackson’s reaction), Curry, Azubuike, Morrow, Maggette, and others and you actually have a pretty fun and entertaining team.

Of course, we don’t know if any of this is true or has any actual merit but it’s certainly fun to consider. I would love to be a fly on the wall inside Warriors HQ and see what they are thinking by keeping that very tradable 2011 first rounder. What do y’all think – is that a trade you’d be happy with?
