“You Are Either With Us – Or You Are Against Us”
October 14th, 2009 | by jruss |I tried to think of something, anything else to write about tonight. But alas, nothing is more relevant and unfortunately interesting than the Stephen Jackson saga. Everywhere I go: Twitter, ESPN, local blogs, KNBR Radio, this is what is on people’s mind. And you know what…it’s on my mind too.
As a fan of a team that has made the playoffs once in the last 20 years (I know that’s an exaggeration) but whatever it is, I am a total and complete optimist. I look forward to every game and while I definitely have had frustrations in the past, I still try to find things to get excited about.
What I am excited about right now is to end this stupid saga with our now former captain, Stephen Jackson. To be honest, I don’t really care if it’s management’s fault for giving Jackson that ridiculous contract or Jackson for taking it, expressing his loyalty and then requesting/demanding a trade – which the W’s can’t really do because of that ridiculous contract.
Fact is, we are a really young team but we’ve got some very exciting players like Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry, Anthony Randolph, Anthony Morrow, Andris Biedrins, and Kelenna Azubuike. We’ve also got some nice vets like Corey Maggette and Ronny Turiaf. Jackson should be a nice complement to these other guys but instead he’s spouting off, disrupting the team and dominating headlines.
As a fan, I just want this whole thing to blow over or GO AWAY. Do whatever you need to in order to make the team and our young players what’s interesting. For crying out loud, the season hasn’t even started yet. Management botched this one and Jackson is now pissing everyone off. If we can trade Jackson, please do it now. If nobody will take him and his contract, then I wish Jackson would stop talking and accept the hole that he helped dig himself in. As someone famous once said, “You are either with us – or you are against us”. Hopefully, we can all move on either way!
