Stephen Jackson Gets His Wish…But I Don’t
November 16th, 2009 | by jruss |Today, former Warriors captain, Stephen Jackson got his trade request granted. He along with Acie Law, are headed to the Charlotte Bobcats for Vladimir Radmonovic and Raja Bell.
I’ve read articles from some who think it’s a great move for the Warriors. Basically, they said the Warriors had to trade Jackson and his contract made that very difficult. Now, they get two players who could get major minutes (especially with Azubuike sidelined indefinitely), and they save over $21 in guaranteed contracts. I guess that’s good if you care about next season or the season after or what the Warriors COULD trade for now…blah, blah, blah.
I also read articles that think the Warriors could have gotten more if they traded Jackson to Cleveland or some place else in a deal that would have given the Warriors even more cap space.
Personally, I am a fan of the team and I don’t care about next season or the season after. I want to be interested in each game. I don’t want to watch the W’s get blown out every other game or see a rookie point guard we could have taken score 55 points on us.
I am not a fan of the business of basketball. I am a fan of actual basketball that’s played on the court during the season. I am more interested in what the Warriors could do when there’s nothing else to talk about. I guess the Warriors felt they needed to trade Jackson. That’s fine. I guess they got serviceable players for him. That’s fine too. All I care about is watching my team be competitive and fun to watch.
So, for me, the jury is out on that until I actually watch some games with the new players in place. I can say that right now at this very moment, I am pretty disheartened at the whole Stephen Jackson situation and am feeling a bit down on the NBA, its prima-donnas, trade demands, etc. At least the college basketball pre-prima donnas will help ease the pain.
