A Warriors Fan Giving Thanks
November 28th, 2009 | by jruss |With Thanksgiving just past, I felt it was appropriate instead of bemoaning all of the things that could be better or different as a Warriors fan that instead I would give some thanks for things I am grateful for. Here they are in no particular order:
Monta Ellis: Not only I am thankful for the fact that the Warriors have not traded him, but I am thankful that since Stephen Jackson has been gone, Ellis has transformed into a legitimate franchise player. AND he’s playing defense.
Our Youngsters: There are teams in the NBA like the Celtics and Spurs that, while they are elite teams year in and year out, they are also getting much older and do not appear to have much young talent ready to step in and step up. That is certainly not the case with the Warriors. If there is one thing we do have, it’s young talent. With Anthony Morrow, Anthony Randolph and Stephen Curry all playing major roles and only getting better, I am thankful that we’ve got a strong core of good players for years to come.
The NBDL: Nobody can find hidden gems in the Development League like the Warriors. Isn’t that right CJ Watson and Kelenna Azubuike and former Warrior Matt Barnes?
The Stephen Jackson Saga is Over: Now I still cannot say I am thrilled with who we got in return, in large part because of Raja Bell’s injury, but the fact is, Jackson is out the door and the Warriors actually seem to be playing better without him. Sionara SJax – look forward to reading about you next year when you are tired of losing in Charlotte.
The Dallas Game: There is something about playing Dallas that gets the Warriors juices flowing. Could be Nellie and Cuban but the fact that we beat Dallas with 6 players was crazy. And, that it’s the first time a team has won with 6 since the 1950’s or something like that is awesome. No matter what this year, we will have the Dallas game.
And finally…that the Warriors are NEVER Boring: Say what you want, there is never a time when the Warriors are not a story of some kind. With Nellie, mopeds, trade demands, depleted rosters, complaints over playing time, you name it – the Warriors have got it in multitude. I’ll say this for the W’s, there is always something going on and at the very least it’s pretty interesting.
