I’m In a Hatin’ Mood

December 4th, 2009 | by jruss |

There are some games you want to talk about and there are some games that as soon as the final horn sounds, you want to forget that the game ever happened. Tonight’s game against the Rockets falls in the second category. However, it did put me in a semi-sour mood so I thought I’d channel that bitterness and, thanks to seeing Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy in person the other night, focus it on former Warriors who fall into the “I’m hatin’ on you” category.

Now I do not hate all former Warriors. In fact there are a number of them I really like and I think my next post will focus on those former W’s that I love. But today, it’s all about the hatin’. So here’s a list of my top 5 Most Hated Former Warriors and 4 that I just don’t like.

5. Erick Dampier: The reason I hate Dampier is because he was such a stiff on the Warriors and not only did they massively overpay him but as soon as the Mavericks massively overpaid for him, the Warriors had no other options at Center so they massively overpaid for Adonal Foyle. This helped to screw up the Warriors salary cap for quite some time. Plus, Dampier to me is a bit of a punk and I just never really liked him. When I saw his name, I found myself sneering a bit. And that’s why he’s on the list.

4. Patrick O’Bryant: Speaking of stiffs, how about Patrick O’Bryant. It’s not like he’s gone on to greatness since he left but man he was a total waste of a pick at number 9. It’s not like the Warriors missed out on Kobe Bryant or Kevin Garnett that year but there were some really nice players that I would have loved to have instead of Big Stiff. Some of them include Ronnie Brewer (#14), Rodney Carney (#16), Rajon Rondo (#21), and especially Paul Milsap (#47). O’Bryant…you are a scrub!

3. Al Harrington: Look, the guy was pretty good but fell too much in love with the three pointer and not playing defense (sound like anyone else on the Warriors…like everybody?). Then out of nowhere he demands a trade. Boo on you Harrington!! Boo on you!

2. Stephen Jackson: It was definitely a toss-up of Jackson going #1 or #2. Ultimately, I have too many fond memories of him to fall into the first slot. Although many memories are not fond, like being a cancer on this team, demanding a trade as well, and wearing out his welcome a long time ago. I really wanted to like him and some days he was awesome. But other days he was not. I’m glad he’s gone and he’s #2 on the hatin’ list.

1. Mike Dunleavy Jr.: I never thought Dunleavy would be my most hated former Warrior until I saw him the other night doing all the things he should have done when he played for us and when we drafted him #3 OVERALL, six picks before Amar’e Stoudamire. Granted, it was a pretty weak draft and Dunleavy fared better than Jay Williams at #2 and Nickoloz Txkitishvili at #5. But I do have to point out that Tayshaun Prince went #23, Carlos Boozer went #34 and Luis Scola (warrior killer) went #55. I think he was too overhyped, compared to Larry Bird, etc. I’m glad I never bought his jersey.

Here are some of the other players I considered putting on this list:
- Ike Diogu
- Troy Murphy
- Joe Smith
- Mikael Pietrus

All right, enough hatin’
