That Was Foul
January 6th, 2010 | by jruss |If you watched the Warriors lose in Warriors-like fashion to the Denver Nuggets 122-123 Tuesday night, then I’m sure you saw “the play”. If you didn’t, then I’m sure you saw the highlights on SportsCenter. If you didn’t then I’m sure you can imagine it.
What is most disturbing about the senseless foul on JR Smith taking a double-pump 3-pointer that had zero chance of ever going in wasn’t the bad call by the refs (it was a bad call). It was Monta Ellis taking a swing at Smith’s head. The fact that it didn’t connect and he still got called for a foul is almost meaningless. No chance Kobe gets called for a foul on the same play, or Carmelo, or almost any other team’s best player. Of course, almost any other team’s best player wouldn’t have taken the swipe to begin with.
As a Warriors fan, we are almost programmed to expect the Warriors to blow that kind of lead or give up the ridiculous prayer to the other team. I used to get really upset about it but I just don’t anymore. Ellis, Maggette and Curry had amazing offensive games. The Nuggets were without Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups. The Warriors had everybody and they still couldn’t pull it out.
This was pretty tough to swallow but unfortunately I have swallowed worse.
