Stats Tell Two Different Stories
January 19th, 2010 | by jruss |Monday’s 17-point win against the Chicago Bulls was very interesting for a couple of reasons. By strictly looking at the box score, the game could have gone in two very different directions. So, here are the two directions based solely on the box score.
Why The Warriors Won:
- Corey Maggette shot 11 of 14 and 10 of 11 from the free throw line. He was +16 and had 32 points
- Stephen Curry hauled in 10 rebounds to go along with 26 points and was 5 of 8 from three point land
- Andris Biedrins had a whopping 19 rebounds
- D-Leage call-ups Cartier Martin and Anthony Tolliver combined for 17 rebounds
- Monta Ellis had 36 points and 8 assists
- Biedrins also had 8 blocks, which made him one point and two blocks away from a triple double
Why The Warriors SHOULD Have Lost:
- Monta shot 14 for 39 from the field. Let me repeat, Ellis HAD 39 SHOT ATTEMPTS…
- Biedrins was 1 for 7 from the free throw line. That’s a percentage of 14%. That’s NOT good
- Cartier Martin and Anthony Tolliver were a combined 4 of 18 from the field. That’s not good either
- Because of injuries, the Warriors only dressed 8 which includes three D-leaguers and Devean George was the starting small forward. I think that says it all right there
Bottom line is that Ellis, Maggette and Curry have continued to carry the Warriors but it was the inspired play by Biedrins that I think got them into the win column. They have been waiting, hoping and dreaming for one big man to contribute to a win. Since we have come to expect big things from Ellis, Curry and Maggette, the big game by Biedrins was the difference. Let’s hope for more performances like that more frequently.
